We have finally found our forever home

19th November 2021

October 2020 marked a sad moment in the history of the foodbank, after many years of working together and being able to share St Luke’s church Rhydyfelin, we had finally outgrown their space. The congregation had always been so kind in allowing us to spread out when we needed (and we will be forever grateful for that), but the numbers of folk needing our help would have meant they would have had no space for their services, and that was not acceptable to us.

We then moved to the Ilan centre in Rhydyfelin and again we had the ability to spread out, especially over the Christmas period, when we get very busy. But this was only a temporary fix, and when Covid restrictions were eased in April 2021, there were other groups that desperately needed the space and we were again left to try and find another home.

Luckily the congregation of St David’s Church in Hopkinstown stepped up and graciously allowed us to use an aisle of their church, though it was not quite big enough for our needs it meant we were able to keep serving those in our community.

New Beginnings

On the 22nd October, after working with Rhondda Cynon Taff Council to try and find a suitable building,  we collected the keys to the former Riverside Day Centre in Treforest, it is a building all to ourselves and we have plans to use every inch of it.

In the future we plan to be able to hold basic cookery lessons for adults and children, to host some our referral agencies to be able to offer advice within the community, and are considering other projects that will not only help those who are in crisis, but also offer before and after crisis support.

We are presently leasing it and will be fundraising and applying for grants to then buy it within the next 12 months, so please do keep your eyes open for further details.
